Obuv Rossii will launch online marketplace

Russian footwear company Obuv Rossii has announced plans to develop an online marketplace. This platform will be based on the online store of its main brand Westfalika.ru. The marketplace will be used to sell products that aren’t provided in the Obuv Rossi Group’s physical stores.

These products include large items that don’t fit the shopping space and items that have a higher price tier. And also some products of third-party suppliers, Obuv Rossii announced.

Increasing retail revenue with 30 percent

Launching an online marketplace will allow the Russian retail group to enhance its efficiency without increasing its physical sales area. It will hopefully also lead to a bigger online customer group. Obuv Rossii expects to increase the retail revenue by over 30 percent in the next two years if the online marketplace has achieved its full capacity.

Customers can also order in-store

Customers will not only be able to order products in the online marketplace, they can also do this in the physical stores. The retailer will equip special places in the stores with monitors which allows customers to place online orders then and there.

Online marketplace will be launched in March

The project is set to start next month in over 30 stores in eleven cities located in the Siberian region. The plan is to have the online marketplace operate at full capacity and throughout the network in 2021. The range of goods will also be expanded.

The project starts in test mode next month in over 30 stores.

Anton Titov, the CEO of Obuv Rossii Group, explains how the main audience of its online marketplace are people who don’t have much experience with online shopping. “They include those who live in small regional towns where we have been opening our stores over the past two years. The level of ecommerce penetration there is still not very high. In addition, the audience features older customers who are rather conservative and still feel suspicious about purchasing anything in online stores. With this purpose, we equip stores with special places where selling assistants will help customers make online orders.”

Other Russian retailers are also launching online marketplaces

Currenty, it seems like a trend among Russian fashion retailers to launch an online marketplace. For example, BNS Group (which develops retail chains under brands like Calvin Klein, Michael Kors and Karl Lagerfeld), Boardriders (retail chains Quiksilver, DC Shoes) and Trade Management (which operates retail chains Lady & Gentleman City and Armani Exchange) all are opening online retail platforms, Kommersant writes.

Physical sales of fashion has declined last year

The newspaper also explains that last year, the sales of clothes, shoes and accessories in Russia has declined for the first time since 2015. But at the same time, online sales in this product category are growing. For example, Wildberries‘ turnover increased by 88 percent to 3.22 billion euros, 67 percent of which accounted for clothing, shoes and accessories. And Ozon’s sales grew 122 percent.
